If you're thinking about putting your Chattanooga, Tennessee home on the market in order to buy some Pickering real estate in Ontario, you've got a lot of work ahead of you. But first thing's first. In order to find a buyer for your home, you need to present buyers with a home that's worth looking at. That means fixing the place up and cleaning it from top to bottom. However, if you've been living there for a while you might be blind to what needs to be done. That's why you need to do a full walk-though.
When you're doing your walk-though, don't do it alone. Find someone, maybe a friend, a relative, or better yet, someone you know who sells Toronto lofts for a living to accompany you. This will give you a set of fresh eyes that will pick up what you miss or are willing to overlook because it's your house. If you can't find anyone, at least make a checklist so you know what's considered acceptable condition and what's not.
Start outside. Stand across the road and look at your house. Does it look appealing? Houses that look appealing to buyers have even green lawns that are free of weeds. Their landscaping is tamed and thriving. The exterior is clean and freshly painted. The windows are clean. The driveway is as fresh as if it was just poured for a new home in Ontario. There are no discarded items, such as toys or old machinery, on the lawn. The garbage cans are out of sight and the walkways and steps are in good repair.
Once you've finished your exterior inspection head on in the front door. Inside the home, the floors should be clean and even, with no stains. The walls should be freshly painted. There shouldn't be any chips or cracks in the walls, floors, or molding. All the lights should work. There shouldn't be any wires sticking out and the appliances should be clean and new like the models you would find in brand new Mississauga townhouses.
Ideally, you also want your decor not to clash with itself or the walls, the decorating scheme to be neutral, and the place not to be clogged with extra furniture and pictures of your family. Take a photo spread of an Eve condo from a decorating magazine along with you and note the differences between it and your home. Write down any flaws you find and come up with a plan to fix them.
